Norma Stroud Sawyer, of Greenville, NC, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the age of 64, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 7, 1961, in Kinston, NC, to Hugh Brian Stroud Sr. and Margaret Burkett Stroud. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished friend, and a beacon of strength as she battled cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville, North Carolina, on November 8 at 4 o'clock with visitation prior from 2 – 3:45 PM at the funeral home.
Norma attended Lenoir Community College and went on to a career as a Dental Assistant. She spent the last 7 years as an Administrative Assistant at Bowman, Padgett, and Associates. Her greatest joy was her family, and she always said she was proud of her daughter and her grandchildren changed her life for the better. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, Jeffrey, and their dog Eddie in their motor home from Maine to Florida. They built a life on a foundation of profound love. Norma's favorite hobby was gardening, and she was well known for her ability to save a wilting plant. She was quoted saying," I can save it." Norma not only brought life to plants but people too.
She is preceded in death by Hugh Brian Stroud Senior and Margaret Burkett Stroud. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Thomas Sawyer; daughter, Amy Michelle Hunt; and her grandchildren, Cohen, Margaret Hunt and Kenan Scott Hunt; siblings, Brian Hugh Stroud Jr., David Patrick Stroud, Joe Tom Stroud, Billy Clinton Stroud, Tiffany Stroud Goins, who will forever cherish the love and laughter she brought into their lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina 3520 Tupper Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
