Robert F. "Bobby" Sumerlin

Robert F. "Bobby" Sumerlin, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Bobby was a lifelong resident of Pitt County and served in the National Guard for 6 years. He worked for E.I. DuPont, retiring in 1996 after over 30 years of service. Bobby was an active member of Parkers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years and served as a deacon. Recently he has also attended Heritage Free Will Baptist Church in Bethel. He was also active in the Gideons International.
Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Dixon Sumerlin; and parents, Marion and Edna Sumerlin.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Sumerlin Potter of Greenville; granddaughter, Gracyn Potter of Greenville; brothers, Willie Sumerlin and wife, Ann, of Simpson, Walter Sumerlin and wife, Teresa, of Greenville, and Charles Sumerlin of Greenville; sisters, Marilyn Woolard and husband, Ray, of Greenville, and Sally Reel of Lewiston, ID; and a number of nieces and nephews.
