JoAnn Shanander Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Feb. 20, 2026.
JoAnn Shanander, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on April 29, 1936 in Louisville, KY. She was the cherished daughter of the late Minnie Louise and Eddie Wilson.

JoAnn graduated from duPont Manual High School, after spending most of her high school years in Honolulu, Hawaii where she attended Roosevelt High School. It was in high school in Hawaii that she would meet her husband, Bill Shanander, and their beautiful love story would begin.

A devout Christian, JoAnn was a faithful and active member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. She was a member of The Touch Sunday School class, the Woman's Missionary Union, and Bright Promise. In recent years, she began singing in the church choir which brought her great joy. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her actions and shaping the compassion and generosity she extended to everyone she met.

Above all, JoAnn was a devoted and loving mother to her three daughters and a faithful wife to her beloved husband, Bill, for 71 years. Their enduring marriage was a testament to commitment, partnership, and deep affection. Her family was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, as well as her daughters, Carole Storey (Richard), Laura Landgrave, and Teri Allen (Phillip). She is also survived by six grandchildren: Weston (Camilla), Brooke, Taylor (Rodney), Hannah, Jack, and Celia; and her great-grandchildren, Marco, Guilia, Jai, and Zyla.

Visitation will be held at Ratterman Funeral Home - 12900 Shelbyville Road on Monday, February 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Hurstbourne Baptist Church, 8800 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40222, on Tuesday, February 24, at 11:00 AM.

Interment at Cave Hill Cemetery will follow the funeral.
