Joanne Dolores Beatrice, cherished mother, grandmother, and fiercely independent spirit, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2025, at the age of 87.
Joanne was a woman of strength, wit, and sharp intelligence. Born on May 12, 1938, in Worcester, MA, Joanne was the daughter of Lillian Armendo (Bisceglia) and John Armendo. In 1956, she graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Worcester, MA. She married her high school sweetheart, Roy Charles Beatrice, Sr., on January 5, 1957. Their partnership, which lasted 50 years until Roy's passing on February 14, 2007, was marked by deep devotion, shared laughter, and a life built together through joy and challenge.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Roy), parents (John and Lillian), and her brothers Bartholomew Armendo, and Matthew (Bubby) Armendo. She is survived by her six children: Roy Charles, Jr. (Ysela), Mark (Norma), Chris (Beverly), Jon Michael (Ruth), Cheryl (Bruce Gillies), and Michelle (Wesley Litaker). Her relationships with her children were complex. Joanne loved them deeply, expressing her love in the ways she knew how. Her presence shaped them, and her love remains part of each of their stories.
She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: David, Steven, Joseph, Tony, Lucy, Dean, Jennifer, and Michael, each of whom brought joy and meaning to her, though she didn't always express just how much. She watched proudly as her grandchildren's lives unfolded and grew in beautiful and wonderous ways.
Joanne lived life on her own terms. She was sharp-tongued, stubborn at times, and unapologetically herself. She was also affectionate and could show great tenderness, surprising humor, and unexpected wisdom. She was a complicated woman in a complicated world-and she met life with grit and resolve. She will be remembered not just for who she was, but for the generations that follow because of her. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be held with honesty, grace, and love.
A funeral service will be held at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home in Las Cruces, NM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 with a graveside ceremony to follow at Masonic Cemetery. In honor of Joanne, the family asks that those attending incorporate her favorite colors: lavender, dusty rose, or mauve into your attire.
