Joanne M. Della Piazza (nee Genna), affectionately known as Jenny, of Summit, NJ passed away peacefully at her home, with her loving family by her side, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the age of 92.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit, NJ on Wednesday, May 15th, from 4-8 PM. The funeral service will begin in the funeral home on Thursday, May 16th, at 10 AM followed by the entombment at St. Teresa's Mausoleum, 136 Passaic Ave., Summit, NJ.
Jenny was born in Summit, NJ, the daughter of the late Nicasia (nee Modica) and Vincenzo Genna. Early in her career she had worked at Ciba Geigy in Summit, NJ. Jenny then met the love of her life, George Della Piazza and they married in 1955. In her most cherished role, Jenny became a stay-at-home mom to raise their family. Afterward, Jenny returned to work as a packaging line operator at Ciba Geigy before retiring in 1994.
Jenny is lovingly remembered as being "mom to all". Her kindness and generosity were always evident, as her home was always open to family and friends, where they could enjoy an incredible homecooked meal or fresh baked goods. She was a "social butterfly", much to George's dismay, and loved spending time with her extensive circle of family and friends. Jenny was a longtime member of the Springfield Council of Columbiettes. She was an avid reader, loved to play cards with her family, and enjoyed traveling and trips to the beaches at the Jersey shore. Jenny was also an avid NY Yankee fan and loved watching football, whether it was college or NFL.
Jenny's greatest love and joy came from her family. She was pre-deceased in 2009 by her beloved husband of 54 years, George J. Della Piazza. She is survived by her loving children, Stephen Della Piazza and his wife Melanie of Berwick, PA, Michael Della Piazza and his wife Kimberly of Las Vegas, NV, Lori Logothetis and her husband James of North Caldwell, NJ, and Carol Kimmel and her husband Kevin of Bridgewater, NJ; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole, Corey, Lauren (Logan), Natalie (Shane), Andrew (Danielle), George (Becky), Emma and Paul, and great-grandchildren Sophia and Melody. Jenny was one of four sisters who were extremely close. She is survived by her dear sisters Paula Moccia of Florham Park, NJ and Eva Panciello of Florida and was pre-deceased by her sister Marie Maluso. Jenny is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Paula Della Piazza and many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in her memory to Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad (www.summitems.org).
