Joanne Hedlund Obituary
Joanne E (Sarni) Hedlund of Hingham, passed away peacefully on July 8th 2024. She was born in Quincy to the late Elizabeth (Dawson) and Joseph Sarni, and graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1955, where she met her many special lifelong friends. Shortly after, Joanne and her family moved to Hingham, the town she called home for the rest of her life. She worked at Quincy City Hospital for many years, most notably in the Pastoral Care Department, where she helped and comforted countless patients and their families. Her two grandchildren, Julia and John, were the joys of her life. Joanne always loved shopping, especially with her best buddy Julia. She spent her childhood on Merrymount Beach in Quincy with her many neighborhood friends and later on Foley Beach in Hingham with her children. She later in life became a sports fan and could never miss a Boston game. She also loved dancing to her 50s music and later, thanks to Tom, her Irish music. Despite having a stroke in 2015, she was an inspiration to others through her constant strength and resilience.
Loving mother of Robert Hedlund, Jr of Weymouth and Heather Hedlund of Hull. Beloved Nana to Julia Hedlund of Hingham and John Hedlund of Weymouth. Dear sister to Willam Sarni and his wife Jeanette of Hingham, and Sharon Skladany and her husband John of Florida. Auntie to Susan Sarni and Holly Pilotte, both of Hingham, and Laura Skaldany Doey and Stephanie Skladany, both of Florida. Also adored and loved by her many cherished friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, July 14th from 2-6PM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St Hingham, MA. A graveside service will be held at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, 20 Sea St Quincy, on Monday July 15th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of Joanne to the Pat Roche Hospice Home at www.nvna.org/charitable-fund.
