Patricia Huie Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Huie, age 93, passed away peacefully witnessing a beautiful sunrise and being surrounded by her family, on October 7, 2025, at her home in Humarock, MA.

Fondly known to her family and friends as “Nana” or “Pat”, she was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. She was born in Worcester, MA on March 27, 1932, daughter of the late Esther (Horan) and Jeremiah Cronin.

Pat graduated Regis College and became a proud and distinguished alumna, class of 1954. She remained a lifelong supporter of her alma mater (Class Reporter for Regis Class Notes well into her nineties), regularly attended alumni events (including her 70th Reunion) and was “tickled pink” when three of her granddaughters also graduated Regis – joining her as a Regis alumnae.

Pat married Irving Huie, her husband of 52 years, on September 3, 1955. Together they raised eight children in Framingham, MA. Pat and Irv found and fell in love with Humarock Beach, renting for a few years before buying their own cottage in 1965, and becoming full-time residents in 1993.

Known for her voracious reading habit, Pat read local and national newspapers daily, announcing she was “going to read my papers”, and would do so for hours. When not absorbed in a book or newspaper, she supported her beloved Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Bruins; she thoroughly enjoyed her time with friends at Hatherly Country Club (Scituate, MA), playing golf or bridge or sharing a fun lunch; and always enjoyed the serene ocean views from her home overlooking Humarock Beach.

Pat was kind, intelligent, ambitious, and incredibly patient. She had a love for travel, starting as a Regis student studying abroad in Spain in 1953 during Spain’s social unrest and resistance to Franco’s dictatorship (causing Pat’s sudden and somewhat clandestine departure from Spain as she told it). Her passion for travel extended well into her eighties, visiting over 20 states and over a dozen National Parks and overseas to Aruba, England, France, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland. She loved spending the winters at her home in West Palm Beach, FL, which she owned since the 1970s, making many close friends during her time there.

Pat’s true passion, though, was her family and her love of bringing family together. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, her warmth, strength, and spirit touched all who were fortunate enough to meet or know her.

“Nana’s home” was the cherished place for family gatherings; from her “small” (minimum of 8 people) casual “Friday pizza nights”, to her famed “July 3rd festivities”, her “everyone is welcome” Thanksgiving dinners (her favorite holiday) and her “over-the-top” decorated Christmas gatherings.

She is survived by her eight children, Michael (wife Jeanne) of Hopedale, MA; Barbara Huie of Humarock, MA; Terence (“Terry”)(wife Dolores “Dee”) of California; Peter (wife Anne Marie) of Humarock, MA; James (“Jim”)(wife Elizabeth “Betsy”) of Leesburg, VA; Eileen Huie Stevenson (husband Mark) of Humarock, MA; Patricia (“Trish”) Huie Kelly (husband Jack) of Tampa, FL; and Kevin (wife Jill) of Duxbury, MA; her 17 grandchildren, Jason (wife Jennifer) and Caitlin Huie; Kevin James Bougoulas; Mary Kate (Huie)(husband Ryan) Leidal, Caroline (Huie)(husband Joe) Emanuel, Alexandra and Terence Huie; Taylor Marie (Huie)(husband Rick) Lordan and Olivia (Huie)(wife Courtney) Hotchkiss; Kathleen and Robert Huie; Elizabeth, Caroline and Mary Stevenson; Grace Patricia Kelly; and Owen and Ava Huie and the late Garret Huie; her nine great-grandchildren; Dorothy (“Dottie”) Huie; Amelia and Clare Leidal; Connor and Ella Emanuel; Riley and Ricky Lordan; Jack and Sophie Hotchkiss; her sister Eleanor and her brother-in-law John Doon of Worcester, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Irving’s passing on August 6, 2007, she is pre-deceased by her brothers, Arthur (“Bud”) Cronin and Robert (“Bob”) Cronin, and her brother and sister-in-law; Robert Huie and his wife Janet.

Nana will be deeply missed but her legacy of love, family, and zest for life will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 10 a.m. at St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main St. (Rt. 3A), Marshfield, MA; Visiting hours Friday, October 10th from 4 pm – 7 pm at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, MA.

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to Regis College, 235 Wellesley Street, Box 30, Weston, MA 02493.
