Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on May 22, 2024.
Joanne M. Murray, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully surrounded by her mother and sisters on May 20, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA, at the age of 59. Born on December 30, 1964, in Darby, PA, Joanne lived a life marked by compassion and service, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Joanne, the cherished daughter of Rita Murray and the late John "Jerry" Murray, grew up in a loving family alongside her sisters, Mary Ellen "Bunny" Barnholt and Carol Smith. Her father's memory, her mother's strength, and the bonds with her siblings shaped the woman she became. Joanne also shared a special connection with her brothers-in-law Joe Barnholt and Dan Smith. Her laughter and love were a constant presence in the lives of her nieces and nephews: Joey Barnholt and his wife Samantha, Jenny Savidge and her husband Garrett, Alyssa Smith and her partner Josh, Emily Smith, and Kayley Smith. Joanne's spirit will live on in her great-niece and nephews: Dawson, Brayden, Wyatt, Weston, and Sophia.
A 1982 graduate of Ridley High School, Joanne's commitment to caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing. She earned her degree from Widener University School of Nursing in 1986 and embarked on a career that would define much of her life. Joanne's nursing journey began at Crozer Chester Medical Center, where her gentle touch and empathetic nature made her a favorite among patients. Her passion for helping others extended into Home Health Care, where she provided not just medical support but also comfort and companionship to those in need.
Those who knew Joanne will remember her as a loving, gentle, and kind soul. Her nurturing spirit was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal passions. Joanne found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as tending to her garden, where she cultivated not just plants but also beauty and tranquility for herself and those around her. She cherished traveling with her mother, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Joanne's love for her canine companions was unparalleled. She was predeceased by her beloved border collie, April Mae, and is survived by her precious Little Bit. The walks they shared were more than just a routine; they were moments of pure happiness and an expression of the bond between them.
Joanne's love for Elvis Presley was surpassed only by the love she had for her friends and family. She often brought warmth and laughter to gatherings with her spirited renditions of classic Elvis hits, which will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.
The legacy Joanne leaves behind is one of unwavering love and selfless care. Her presence was a gift to her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched through her nursing career. Joanne's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Joanne M. Murray, we celebrate a life well-lived and a heart that gave so much. She will be deeply missed, yet her example of kindness and dedication will remain a guiding light for all who carry her memory in their hearts.
