Joanne Progess, 86, passed away peacefully at home with her loved ones around her comforting, holding and praying with her.
Mom was born in Corpus Christi and spent most of her life there raising her children and family with her husband of 37 years, Glenn Progess. Dad worked as a mechanical engineer in the oil field. With Dads work we all had the opportunity to travel overseas in the mid 80's which was a memorable experience for all. Like Mom, Dad had a tender heart and through trials and love, together they figured it out along the way.
Mom took care of the home and enjoyed her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. We all have fond memories of her telling animated stories, singing and encouraging us with bright smiles, a sweet voice and interest as we played, grew and accomplished in our lives. Children and people loved Mom. She was a kind soul. She had a way about her that was relatable with a Texas charm and a certain vulnerability that was lovable and comforting. She had a giving spirit and always wanted to give and share what she had. She would give you anything of hers you said you liked. She was our greatest advocate. Some of our favorite memories are of family reunions, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with our extended family from Corpus to Pasadena. Those are some of the core memories of our lifetime because they were made to feel so special with delicious homemade southern foods and desserts giving us the spirit of the holiday season.
Mom needed people in her life but when it came down to it, she would offer her help and be there to care for her Daddy, her Mother and others who needed her. After Dad passed in 2006, she decided she did not want to live alone which led her to move with her youngest daughter, Tammara. During this time and especially at the end, she was constantly surrounded and cared for by all four of her children and other family members and friends.
What she said the most to people in her life, in the last months, weeks and days, even if she could only get it out with a gentle breath was, I love you. It was clear she wanted to make sure people knew that. Mom showed her strength and courage as she awaited the hand of her Savior to lead her home. She was watching for the Promise. Her trust and faith was like a child. She always said Jesus took care of her, and He did! She is very missed already. Until we meet each other again in Heaven Mom, we love you always.
Joanne is preceded in Homecoming by her husband Glenn, her parents Jap and Ruby Murphey and her first born child who she lost at birth, Lea Ann Lanphier.
She is survived by her four loving children, Michael (Lorna) David (Deanna) Suzanne (Laney) and Tammara (Wesley). Her brother Don and his wife Karen (Nicole, Brandon, Connor & Avery) (Donnie, Michelle & Jaden). Her sister Nancy and her husband Albert (Matt, Emie & Emma). Grandchildren: Grant (Jordan) Sarah (Luis) Tayler (Maggy) Kelsey (Autumn) Dillon, Emma (Malachi) Jessica, Jimmy (Lisa) and Morgan Jade. Great Grandchildren: Caidence, Sonny, Adalyn, Aubree, Solomon, Dakota and Wrangler Mom has many surviving cousins and second cousins who reside in Corpus, as well as adopted family and dear friends in Texas.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday April 5, 2025 at 1 pm at Kings Crossing Church of Christ in Corpus Christi.
