Jodi Lynn Hoover, 46, of Pinch, West Virginia passed away at her home in Milwaukie, Oregon on June 15, 2024 after a long illness. Jodi was born on November 15, 1977 to Benjamin Joseph Hoover and Madlyn Murrel (Brewer) Hoover in Charleston, WV.
Jodi was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Marie Katherine (Burgess) and Benjamin Franklin Hoover of Elkview, WV; and maternal grandparents, Goldie Edith (Burns) and Edward Gaylen Brewer of Pinch, WV. She is survived by her daughter, Lily Claire, of Milwaukie, OR; mother, Murrel and father, Joe, both of Pinch; brother Ben, of Pinch; sister Kelli and brother-in-law John Swain of Greensboro, NC; and her beloved cats, goose, and beautiful home garden.
Jodi was actively involved in the Children's Theater of Charleston and marching band throughout her school years. Her first – and probably favorite job was babysitting. Even while in middle school, many families along Elk River entrusted Jodi with their children. She also kept the nursery at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, caring for children during church services.
Jodi graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1996. She later attended the University of Charleston School of Nursing, graduating in 2001. After graduation, she bought a Volkswagen and followed her heart to the west coast, bringing along two of her beloved cats. Jodi first moved to Bakersfield, CA, but loved the music scene and climate of Portland, OR, which she felt was more like "home" in WV.
Jodi's deeply caring nature led to her success in her nursing career, first as a travel nurse, then working in emergency rooms and as a home-health nurse and tele-health nurse. She bonded with her patients over her love of her daughter, animals, gardening, canning, flowers, or music – she always found a way to connect with others. Jodi was a fierce advocate for all people and creatures – she was "proxy mom" to a kindred soul, Kelli Moonwoods, and she was the family's on-call nurse and on-call support, always willing to lend an ear and advice.
One of Jodi's passions was gardening, as she deeply cared about healthy eating and the environment. She started a community garden at the hospital and set up a table in her driveway to give away produce from her garden to delivery drivers and anyone who stopped by. She loved canning, cooking, and baking, always sharing new recipes and ideas with friends and family. Jodi also loved to thrift, which allowed for her unique collections and amazing ability to find and give the perfect gifts to loved ones. Her eclectic tastes in music will forever be imprinted on the many friends and family members with whom she shared concert experiences, playlists, and CDs.
In memory of Jodi, the family requests donations be made to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, a life-saving animal shelter for over ten years, located at 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311 or online at https://adoptcharleston.com/.

I am so sad to hear of Jodi´s passing. She was such a wonderful friend. We had such wonderful times in band. I´ll never forget riding with her in the caprice wagon she had after she got her drivers license. We had so many laughs.

I´m really saddened by Jodi´s passing. I think she was my first true friend. We loved playing baby dolls and just pretending in general. I regret that we lost touch over the years.
