Joan "Jodie" Etherton, born Joan |jo-ann| Berck, on March 22, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, in Greenfield, Indiana. She was 94 years old.

Jodie graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1949. She carried the values of dedication and connection with her throughout her life. Her warmth and unwavering commitment to always keeping in contact with her friends and family were defining qualities that touched many lives. Jodie was known for her heartfelt letters and greeting cards she sent faithfully for holidays, special occasions, or just to say hello. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel remembered and cherished.

Jodie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alma Berck; her sister, Betty DeHart; her brothers, John Berck and Donald Berck; her former spouse, Don Coghill; and her husband, Bill Etherton.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Mike (Brenda) Coghill and Catherine (Doug) Kichler; her grandson Ryan (Lesley) Coghill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family holds dear the many joyful memories they shared with her over the years!

Jodie was creative and generous—especially evident in the beautiful decorative wreaths she crafted and gifted to friends and family. She truly loved celebrating family birthdays and giving presents to everyone she could. Jodie was well known for having a minimum of three Christmas trees every year to celebrate her favorite holiday.

Jodie also shared a deep love for Notre Dame football with her husband Bill. Together they attended many games—Bill as an avid fan and former sportscaster for their football and basketball teams—and Jodie as his enthusiastic companion.

In recent years, Jodie found joy in playing Bingo. Rarely missing a game, she often donated her "winnings" to the care team members who supported her.

Throughout Jodie's life, her ability to make new friends never waned. Whether through shared interests or simple conversation, she had a way of making people feel seen and valued—a true testament to the kindness she extended so freely. She had interesting stories on every topic and loved to tell them to anyone!

A memorial service will be held on October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. All family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating Jodie's life by sharing their stories of remembrance.

May Jodie's memory bring happy thoughts and comfort to all who knew and loved her!
