In loving memory of Joe Hood Bratton, who passed away at age 89 on July 21, 2024. He was a man of unwavering dedication, profound love, and deep-rooted faith.
Born October 12, 1934, Joe was raised with a passion for farming, inheriting the family's legacy of hard work and stewardship of the land. Throughout his life, he tended to his farm with meticulous care, nurturing crops and livestock with a dedication that reflected his deep connection to the land.
A pillar of his community, Joe was known for his generosity and kindness. Above all else, he cherished his family. His love for his spouse, Cathleen Brandon Bratton and three girls, Kimberly Chambers Winstead (Eric), Karla Chambers Sanders (Ben) and Joni Bratton Holmes (Bobby), 5 grandchildren: Laurin Winstead Teeter (Lewis), Madeline Winstead Addison (Caleb), Joseph Bryce McGinnas, Kylie Michaela Holmes and Cayden Bratton Holmes and 2 great grandchildren: Elliott Dane Teeter and Emilia Jeanette Teeter, and countless nieces and nephews was immeasurable, and he found joy in every moment spent with them. Whether gathered around the dinner table or working together on the farm, his family was his greatest source of pride and happiness.
Joe was a proud United States veteran, having served in the Army as a Specialist in the 585th Signal Company from 1957-1959 in Germany with special duty in Lebanon.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.
Joe is one of 10 siblings and survived by his brother John Thomas Bratton (Margaret Ida). He was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert Walter Bratton and Pearl Blanche Ramsey Bratton, brothers, Robert Howard Bratton (Helen), Leon Miller Bratton (Edna), and Walter David Bratton (Jewell) sisters, Wilma Blanche Bratton Howell (William), Macie Christine Bratton Vinson (Wilborn), Sarah Emma Bratton Howell (Curtis), Lucy Frances Bratton Benfield (Irwin), and Ruth Ellen Bratton Faulk (Charlie).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Western York County Agriculture Arena, reflecting Joe's lifelong love of farming. Donations can be mailed to YSD1 Education Foundation, PO Box 484, York, SC 29745 or ysd1foundation.org in memory of Joe Bratton.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024 at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy York, SC. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at St. Paul Methodist Church, 1550 Saint Paul Church Rd., Clover, SC 29710, on Wednesday, July 24 at 2 PM, where friends and loved, ones will gather to honor his memory and share stories of a life well-lived.
