Joe Dowler Obituary

Joe Dowler, a lifelong resident of Twentynine Palms, passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2025, at the age of 66 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
He was born in Orange, California, but moved to the desert with his family when he was just 3 years old. He was a 1977 graduate of Twentynine Palms High School.
Joe embraced this town and the desert life and although he moved away periodically for work as a union glazer, he always returned to his hometown and retired here from his job as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Joshua Tree National Park.
Joe lived a life of racing, fishing, long days in the desert, music and grilling meals for his friends. He lived simply. Enjoying just being outside, tinkering on dirt bike engines and boat motors and sitting around telling stories by a campfire. Every year, he volunteered his time for the Hilltoppers MC Wild West Grand Prix, running the heavy equipment to get the dirt track ready for the new racers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nancy Dowler. He is survived by his son, Sean Joseph Dowler, and his stepdaughter, Randi Mason (Stewart).

I first met Joe playing in minor league baseball at Luckie Park in 29, nearly 60 years ago. We were friends over the years but it has been decades since seeing him. His passing is sad, had hoped to catch up and share details of our lives. Joe was usually quiet/easy-going, as well as friendly and reliable. He will be missed by those who knew him.
