It is with profound sadness that we share that Joe Jarzembowski died peacefully at home on September 22nd, 2023. His wife, Amy and his two children, Sam and Julia were holding his hands as he left this world.
Joe loved spending time with family and friends, enjoying a glass of wine, cooking and eating great food, travelling and planning yet more trips. His next scheduled trip was to be a cruise to Antarctica early in 2024. He spent a lot of time reading, playing with the cats, and reviewing investment opportunities with the Bellingham Angel Investors.
During his career he was a software engineer, an attorney, a project manager for a hot finish tubing mill, an international sales manager, and finally his favorite role: a consultant, advisor and investor in startup companies. He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from UMASS–Amherst, an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and a JD degree from Suffolk University. His love of learning was lifelong.
Joe was kind, generous, witty, and extremely intelligent. His love of family is what we will remember most about him. Nothing gave him more pleasure that to cook for us all and to enjoy dinner together.
Joe was born in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1948. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Amy Van Pelt, his children Sam Jarzembowski, Julia Jarzembowski and her husband Brad Hoffman; his sisters Trish Siegel (Peter Siegel), Helen Jarzembowski (Dick Duncan), and Sue Allen (Matthew Allen); his sisters- and brother-in-law Barb Van Pelt (David Varga), Linda Van Pelt (Greg Holman), and Don Van Pelt (Rosemary Thies) as well as numerous nieces, nephews.
A Celebration of Life for will be held on November 11, 2023 from 3 – 5 PM in the Living Room at the Chrysalis Inn Bellingham WA.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, the Whatcom Hospice Foundation, or the Van Pelt Family Scholarship Fund at the Whatcom Community Foundation.
