Mr. Joe Sherman Jester was born on March 9, 1948, to Joe Sherman Jester, Sr., and Alice Fears Jester in
Griffin, Georgia. Joe received his formal education at Fairmont High School in
Griffin, Georgia. He furthered his education at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama.
Joe accepted Christ as his Savior at an early and was united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Usher Board. He volunteered with the Food Ministry and faithfully served as a driver for Vacation Bible School.
Mr. Joe Sherman Jester, Jr., was united in holy matrimony with Ms. Ansley Lamar. Their union was blessed with 3 children.
Joe was drafted from Miles College and enlisted in the United States Army, on January 23, 1970, and he was Honorably Discharged on September 23, 1971.
Joe was employed by K-Mart Distribution Center for Many years and later retired from Fashion Industry.
Mr. Joe Sherman Jester, Jr., will be remembered for his deep love for his family and the joy he found in being surrounded by those he loved. A passionate lover of football, he carried a lifelong pride in the game and brotherhood it created. His dedication and talent on the field earned him the honor of being inducted into the Miles College Football Hall of Fame. A recognition that remained one of his proudest accomplishments.
Beyond the field, he was a man who found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved gathering with family, especially cherishing moments with his grandchildren, who brought endless smiles to his face. He never turned down a good home cooked meal and truly enjoyed getting out, spending time with friends, and loved ones. He loved sharing laughter wherever he went. His warmth, love for family and joyful spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, our Heavenly Father called Mr. Joe Sherman Jester, Jr., home, where he will forever dwell in God's presence. Joe is now set free from all sickness and pain. Rest now in peace and comfort, your journey has ended, battle fought, and victory won. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Joe Sherman Jester, Sr., and Mrs. Alice Fears Jester, his wife, Mrs. Ansley Jester, and his sister, Elizabeth Sue Ambrose.
Mr. Joe Sherman Jester, Jr., leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Demetric (Darrell) Shelton, and 2 sons, Sedric Jester, and Steven Jester, sisters, Agnes Weems, and Maldoria (Josie) Brown, brothers-in-law, Wayne Lamar, Gerald Lamar, and Vincent Lamar, mother-in-law, Catherine Smith, aunt, Easter Jester, 7 grandchildren, Courtney (Corey) Brooks, Chelsea (Jabari) Adams, Ashley (Kevin) Clarke, Steven Jester, Terrell Jester, Cameron Jester, and Carter Jester, and 9 great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will cherish his memories forever.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Burden's Funeral Home. Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 321 E. Taylor Street. The body will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to the service hour. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Garden. Rev. Dr. Shirley Brown will Officiate and Rev. Keynon Jackson is the Eulogist.
