Deacon Joseph Moment Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and devoted servant of God, was born on August 5, 1939, in Hobe Sound, Florida, to the late Elizabeth Johnson Moment and Joseph Moment Sr. On July 23, 2025, he was called home to be with the Lord.
He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Uzell Moment, and together they shared 59 blessed years of marriage. As a husband, he was both a provider and a protector-gentle, strong, and present. Together, they raised a loving family and built a home rooted in faith,
leaving behind a legacy that will carry on for generations.
Deacon Moment was a quiet yet powerful presence, known for his strength, integrity, and devotion to family and community. He was the proud owner and operator of his own landscaping business, serving the local area with excellence for many years. His work was more than just a livelihood-it was a reflection of his discipline, pride, and commitment to providing for his family with dignity.
A lifelong member of St. Matthew Primitive Baptist Church, Deacon Moment served faithfully for over 60 years. As a deacon and church trustee, he carried out his responsibilities with unwavering dedication, always willing to do whatever was needed in the Lord's house. Whether ministering to others, caring for church grounds, or supporting the ministry behind the scenes, he served with a heart for God. His actions were a living testimony of his faith, obedience, and deep reverence for the Word. He was a spiritual pillar-respected, trusted, and deeply loved by his family, his church, and his community.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Uzell Moment; his parents, Elizabeth Johnson Moment and Joseph Moment Sr.; his brother, Frederick Moment; and his sister, Pauline Moment.
He leaves behind a strong and loving legacy in his children: sons Lonnie Moment (Regina) of Port Salerno, FL, and Donnie Moment of Hobe Sound, FL; daughters Janice Hatcher (David) of Jupiter, FL, Kendra Moment Ruiz (Oscar) of Brandon, FL, and Elizabeth "Liz" Moment of Hobe Sound, FL. He is also survived by his brothers, Calvin Moment (Danette) and William Moment, both of Hobe Sound, FL; and sisters Vivian Grant of Hobe Sound, FL, Coretha Miller (Douglas) of Hobe Sound, FL, Beverly Bradley (John) of Wabasso, FL, Doris Belle (Alfred) of Micanopy, FL, and June Moment-Birdens (Jack). His legacy lives on through 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who were blessed by his presence and impacted by his life.
Though he has departed from this earthly life, Deacon Joseph Moment Jr.'s legacy of faith, humility, and service will live on in the hearts of all who had the blessing to know him. His memory will forever be a light that guides his family, his church, and all those who walked beside him.
