Edward Harold Mrozek, 64, of Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully under hospice care, surrounded by family and love.
Born on January 27, 1961, Edward was the beloved son of the late Marlene Christensen and Edward Mrozek, and the stepson of Robert Li Sooey.
Known affectionately as Ed, he grew up in New Jersey and attended The Pingry School and Christian Brothers Academy before continuing his studies at Miami University.
From a young age, Ed developed a deep connection to the water. Self-taught on the Jersey Shore, learning to sail and fish along the Metedeconk River, he grew into a man whose life was forever shaped by the sea.
In the early 1980s, Ed moved to Florida, where he earned his captain's license and built his life along the Treasure Coast. He married Michelle Mrozek in 1988, sharing over twenty years together before her passing. A true waterman, he found joy and purpose on the water-boating, fishing, and exploring the beauty of the Florida Keys. The Keys held a special place in his heart, especially the countless adventures he shared with his brother Christopher Li over the decades, including trips to Islamorada, Key West, and the Bahamas. Ever independent, Ed also fulfilled a lifelong dream by bareboating alone through the Virgin Islands, guided only by his instincts, skill, and love for the ocean.
He also found great joy in sharing the Keys and his boats with his niece and nephews, creating lasting memories that reflected his love of family and the sea.
Ed's compassion extended beyond people to the animals he loved and cared for throughout his life-especially his dogs and birds, who were his faithful companions and constant sources of peace.
He is survived by his brother Christopher Li, his sister-in-law Jordan Li, and his cherished niece and nephews-Stella, Jack, and Harry Li-who adored their Uncle Ed and the warmth, humor, and gentle wisdom he brought to every family gathering.
He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Debra Chant, whose love and care brought him comfort and strength over the past ten years, and by his dear friend, Andy Studdiford, with whom he shared many years of friendship and laughter.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Stuart, Florida, and in New Jersey, where family and friends will gather to honor Ed's memory and the calm, adventurous spirit that guided his life.
