ALEXANDER – In loving memory of Joseph "Red" or "Rebel" Norton, Jr., who peacefully departed this world on Jan 5, 2024 at his residence in Alexander, North Carolina.
Born to Joseph and Catherine Norton, on December 28th 1946, Joseph spent most of his childhood on Lonesome Mountain before joining the Army. He served his Country in Vietnam war and earned many honors before coming home. He traveled all over driving a black Peterbilt till he retired, and touched the lives of all he met, for which he passed on that tradition to his honorary grandson, Ricky Payne Jr, who still drives the last truck he retired in. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the funeral home.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnna Norton; his parents, Joseph and Catherine Norton; his brother, Gary Norton; nephew, Chris Anders; and a very special friend, Velma Bullman, who shared many cherished moments with him.
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Norton III and Linda Norton; sisters, Reva Norton and Treva Norton; and brother, Ricky Norton. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Jessica Payne and Angel Norton; as well as his great-granddaughter, Madison Joanna Payne. Joseph will be remembered fondly by his nephew and nieces, including: Ricky Dale Norton, Shannon Norton, Jason Talton, and Treva's kids.
Known for his stubbornness, his generosity and his door always being open when needed. Joseph's impact on those who knew him will be remembered by all who had the privilege of meeting him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date to be determined for those that can't attend the funeral. In this time of grief, may we find solace in the cherished memories of Joseph Norton Jr. Condolences and memories can be shared at wwwMadisonFH.com.
