Joe "Papa Joe" Donald Pope passed away December 20,2024 in Ash, NC at the age of 91. He was born in Gaston County on August 9, 1933 and was the son of late Lloyd and Madeline Pope. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Pauline Pope, son Chris Pope, brothers Junior and Bill, and sisters Alma, Hilda and Mildred.
Left to treasure his memory are his daughter Susanne Bridges, granddaughters Madeline Beam (Lee) and Sarah Bridges (Ashley), sister Barbara Sneed, great granddaughters Victoria Nesnow (Adam) and Allyson Beam, great great grandson Noah Nesnow, many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Mr. Pope was the owner and operator of Firehouse Fish -n- Fixins in Gastonia. He was a charter member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church and later a member of City Church, Gastonia. He was also a member of the Gideons International and was a former associational Director of the RA's.
Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2024 at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel from 1 pm to 2 pm with the funeral service to follow at 2 pm.
Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U S Army.

Joe was a RA leader at Fairview Baptist Church.I am now 81 but he had a lasting positive influence on my life.I am truly sorry for your loss.
