Joe Ben Sama, age 91 of Campbellsburg passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at his home.
Joe was born September 11, 1934 in Beattyville, Kentucky the son of Salvatore and Lenora Napier Sama. Joe was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. He was a 25 year member of the Campbellsburg Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for approximately 3 years. He was a lifetime member of the Campbellsburg Conservation Club, and a member of the Campbellsburg Odd Fellows Lodge. Joe's retirement consisted of his joy for playing cards with family and friends, riding his golf cart all over the town and mowing. He loved growing his strawberries, working on old vehicles and wheeling and dealing. He attended shooting matches and enjoyed his mornings spent at Campbellsburg Hardware and K&E. He loved hanging out with his family and friends and telling his stories.
Joe is survived by his sons, Danny Sama (Lisa) of Washington, Kevin Sama (Stacy) of Washington, his daughters, Desi Alexander of Campbellsburg, Theresa Sama of Desert Hot Springs, California, his brothers, Henry Sama of Macon, Georgia, and Salvatore Sama Jr. of Salem, and his sisters, Betty Daugherty of Orleans and Violet Gilstrap of Salem. Joe is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren with one more on the way.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Helen who passed away on October 30, 2021. He is also preceded by his parents, his son, Joey Dean Sama, his two brothers, Carlo Sama and Charlie Sama, and his sisters, Mary Mumfrey, Ruth Bell, Lucy Combs, Evelyn Couch and Martha Davidson.
Services for Joe will be on Thursday, February 19th at 11:00a.m at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, February 18th from 4:00-8:00p.m and Thursday morning, from 9:00 until the time of service, burial will take place directly after the service at Claysville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Claysville Cemetery Fund C/O Bill Tower.
