Joy Lyn Sama

Joy Lyn Sama, age 53, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 14, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Vincent and Lois (Fasnacht) Sama. She is survived by her uncle Stanley Fasnacht who is 100 years old, of Florida, and by many cousins an friends. Joy was a life-long Canton resident and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Joy was a lifelong lover of learning, earning various degrees as she continued her studies throughout her life. She graduated in 1993 from Walsh University with a Bachelor's of Science, Math, and Computer Science, earned her Master's Degree in Education and Administration from Ashland University in 1998, and in 2011 completed the Kent State University Gifted Endorsement Program. Joy had been serving in the education community since 1993 in many areas, including Marion City, Cuyahoga Falls, Lake, Northwest, and Tuslaw. She received a multitude of honors and awards at a local and state level.
Serving Higher Education as an Adjunct Instructor and course developer for Marion Technical College ('94-'95), Walsh University ('97-'00), and Malone University ('16-'22). Joy was also involved with the Gifted/Federal Programs/Digital Learning and Technology Integration communities at lake, Northwest, and Tuslaw. She spend the last seven years with Tuslaw as the Gifted/Federal Program and Curriculum Director, and the Director of Special Education this year.
Not only was Joy intelligent, but she also had a heart of gold; she was, lovingly, was her parents' caretaker. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and traveling with them. She was an avid reader and loved to color in her free time.
Let us all remember the beautiful light Joy brought to those around her. She was so loved by her family, and loved us in return. Joy was a wonderful friend who saw the best in everyone – something her mother taught her. She was a rare jewel who could meet people where they were and make them feel good and understood. She will be GREATLY missed.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Whipple Heights CMA Church (4900 12th St. NW Canton, OH 44708).
