Joseph D. Sama

Joseph "Joe" Sama Sr., born on July 13, 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware, was called home on June 5, 2024, at the age of 80.
Joe retired from DuPont after 34 years of service, however his real purpose in life was being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Known for his fun-loving nature and heart full of kindness, he was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was selfless, always putting others' needs before his own and his love was unconditional.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Dominick and Irene Sama. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his children, Kim, and Joe and his wife Suellyn; his grandchildren, Tyler, Gabrielle, Casey and Emma and his two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Cyrus. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Joe will be fondly remembered by his sisters, RoseMarie, Chrissy, Rene and Vicky, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved immensely.
His legacy of love and service to others will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
The compassionate care provided for Joe by AccentCare Hospice and others he met along his journey hold a special place in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington on Wednesday, June 12 from 9:30 – 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM, immediately followed by interment in Cathedral Cemetery.
