Joe "Jody" Shelton, 83, of Marshall, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Jody was born May 15, 1943 in the Shelton Laurel Community of Madison County to his late parents, Roosevelt Shelton and Rachel Tweed Shelton. He worked for several years in a sawmill and did various other jobs until finally retiring. Jody spent his time loving Jesus, playing the guitar, gardening, and loving his family and friends. He was a member of Culvin Creek Church. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special daughter/niece, Hope Bailey, and two sisters, Georgina Shelton Presnell and Bonnie Lou Shelton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Nina Sue Shelton; son. J.L. Shelton (Becky) of Marshall; daughter, Jenny Shelton Harris (Raymond) of Erwin, TN; special daughter/niece, Melissa Hudson (James) of Union Mills, NC; special son/nephew, Buddy Presnell (Vickie) of Burnsville, NC; granddaughter, Nancy Shelton; three great grandchildren, Jordan, Parker and Annalee Shelton; sisters, Dora L Shelton of Greeneville, TN, Elsie Shelton of Erwin, TN, Mary Lee Sparks of Erwin, TN, and Debbie Silvers (Cozy) of Erwin, TN; special brother-in-law, Homer Shelton (Barbara) of Marshall; and several other extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Reverends Jimmy Dean Hensley and Jason Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Culvin Creek Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
The family would like to give special thanks to Elderberry Healthcare, Four Seasons Hospice and Madison Funeral Services.
