Joe Cornell Tompkins, 69, of Lanham, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Joe was born in South Carolina, the first child of the late Mary and Joe Tompkins. He grew up on Quincey Street in Northwest Washington, D.C., and later in Lanham, Maryland, on Good Luck Road. Eventually, he made his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

A devoted fan of both the Washington Redskins and the Washington Wizards, Joe's love for his hometown teams was only matched by the love he shared with those around him. To know Joe was to love him - his warm spirit, kind heart, and infectious smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Claiborne; children, Latoya Price and Charlita Claiborne; sister, Monique Tompkins; niece, Verlisha Tompkins; nephews, Justin Tompkins and Paris Beach; and a host of grandchildren and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Tompkins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7 at Quantico National Cemetery.
