Joel Slade Bacon, age 67, of Thomasville, GA, passed away peacefully Friday, September 5, 2025. A native of Douglas, GA, he was born on December 28, 1957, to the late William Slade Bacon and the late Charlotte Evalyn Walker Bacon. His infant brother Forest Owen Bacon also preceded him in death.
Slade graduated from Coffee County High School, Douglas, GA. While attending high school, he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Scouts BSA program of Scouting America. After high school, he obtained his Associate in Science degree from South Georgia College, Douglas, GA, in 1977. Slade obtained his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1980.
He worked as a pharmacist for 36 years. Slade was a member of Thomasville First Baptist Church. He loved to ride bicycles around Thomas County and neighboring counties with friends and his son. He enjoyed riding BRAG (Bicycle Ride Across Georgia) numerous times. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, music, and traveling. Slade was a passionate supporter of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, attending many games with his family and friends.
Slade is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Jane Eubanks Bacon and his son Benjamin Slade Bacon. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, three nephews, two nieces, six great nieces, five great nephews, two aunts, one uncle and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Thomasville First Baptist Church, 210 N. Broad Street, Thomasville, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Visitation will be held at the Church at 1 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at Sale City Cemetery, Sale City, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Contributions be made to the Gary Milton Life Group, Thomasville First Baptist Church, 210 N. Broad Street, Thomasville, GA 31792.
