Joel Cameron Obituary

Joel was born in Sanford, the son of the late James Duncan Cameron and Ruth McCain Cameron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Swofford Cameron, sister Doris Simpson, brother Harold Cameron, four half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Joel is survived by two sons, David (Caitlin) of Missouri and Marshall (Rachel) of Pittsboro; grandchildren Lydia Johansson (Lars), Ian Cameron and Michael Cameron. He is also survived by a sister, Carol Cox of Sanford; sister-in-law Rita Cameron of Moore County and many special nephews and nieces, and special friend, Lois Davis.
Joel was a 1960 graduate of Greenwood High School. Joel loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. After graduation, Joel worked at Federal Spinning, Eagle Electric and Coty where he retired from in 2005. After retirement, Joel was a Hospice Volunteer for 8 years and a Chaplin at Central Carolina Hospital for 18 years. Joel truly loved his patients and found great joy in ministering to them.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pocket Presbyterian Church, 669 Pocket Church Road or a charity of one's choice.
