Joel Woodruff Collier, age 74, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away May 5, 2024. Joel was born in Lexington, NC to the late Martha S. (Woodruff) Collier and Robert E. Collier.

Since his father was an officer in the USMC, the family lived on several bases as Joel was growing up. Bases included Pearl Harbor, HI, Camp Lejeune, NC, Springfield, VA and finally after retirement the family settled in Atlanta, GA. Joel attended highschool at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA. After graduation, Joel enlisted in the United States Navy. He trained as a Corpsman. This led to a career in Nursing. Joel nursed in the ER, ICU, Maternity and Psychiatric wards.

After service in USN, Joel attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, GA. Here he met and married Ann E. Townsend. Joel graduated in 1977  with a B.B.A. degree. Ann and Joel moved to Austell, GA where Joel served as Scout Master for BSA Troop 749. He also earned Wood Badge, an award for adult Scout leaders. Joel was a member of Good Sheperd Episcol Church in Austell, GA. During this time, he served as both Junior and Senior Wardens of the Parish. Joel loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, gardening and especially spending time with family. 

Joel is survived by wife (Ex) Ann T. Collier, son: Benjamin Collier; daughter: Sara Taylor; grandson: Hunter Taylor; brothers and sister-in-law: Robert and Mary Collier and Walter and Lois Collier; nieces and nephews and their families: Christine Farris, Maurine Hunter, Amy Romy, Timothy Collier, Lindsey Schwan and many great nieces and nephews.

Per Joel's wishes there will be no services.
