JOEL HASEN

HASEN--Joel. Joel Hasen, widower of Donna E. Bennick, died on March 18, 2023, at his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at the age of 88 in the company of family. Born in 1934, Joel resided in New York City for most of the first 70 years of his life. He attended the Ethical Culture School in Manhattan and Fieldston High School in the Bronx. He received a B.A. from Cornell University and law degrees from Columbia University and New York University. From 1959 to 2002, he practiced law in New York City, specializing in tax and, later, aircraft leasing. Joel loved design, travel, architecture, classic Broadway shows (and show tunes) and a spirited argument. He also was an avid and accomplished tennis player until an injury sidelined him in his late 60s. He is survived by his daughter Nina and Nina's partner, Ernest Moy; his son David and David's wife, Elis Banducci; and Linda Bennick, mother of Donna. A memorial service will be held on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ackland Art Museum, 101 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, NC 27599. An online option is available for those unable to attend in person.
