Joel Moffett

Joel Moffett (84) was born on February 25, 1941 in Gulfport, MS to the late Joseph and Jeannie Moffett. His spirit ascended peacefully on March 27, 2025 while living in Columbus, OH with his son, Patrick by his side. Joel was a long-time resident of Erie, PA. He worked many years at Triangle Tool Plastek, where he later retired.
Joel accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for many years prior to relocating out of state. He was also a member of The Gospel Crusaders singing group in the late 60's through early 80's. It was at Antioch Baptist Church where Joel met the forever love of his life and future bride, Doris "The Fox" Hunter Moffett. He was not ashamed to proclaim it was love at first sight.
Outside of the church, Joel was a lover of sports, coaching and mentoring the youth of the community through football (Bay City and Little Gridders), baseball (Erie Boys Baseball) and softball. Joel was a loyal and faithful husband and was committed to the love and support of his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jeffrey, Larry and Billy Moffett, two sisters, Margaret Moffett and Lollie Ray, brother-in-law, Eugene Hamilton, sister-in-law, Dorothy F. Hunter, his loving wife of 44 years, Doris B. Moffett, eldest son, Byron O. Moffett, and infant daughter, Freida D. Moffett. He leaves to cherish his memory, his youngest son, Patrick Joel Moffett of Columbus, OH, grandchildren, Devin, Jordan, Hunter, Olivia, Nina and Braydan Moffett, great grandchildren, Jionni (Gigi), Jeremiah, Parker, Aria, and Miyalyn, and extended family Michael, Brittany, and Jasmine.
In addition to his extended lineage, he leaves brothers, James Moffett (Eva), Richard Moffett, and sisters, Linda Moffett and Beverly Doss. His legacy is also extended to the close unity of brothers-in-law Dennis, Ambus III, James and Gerald Hunter, and John Henderson, sisters-in-law, Virgia Ann Hamilton, Ruth, Philomena, Karen, Dorothy A., Mozella Hunter, and Louise Moffett. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and long- time friends.
The celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. The viewing will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with services immediately following. Interment will be by his bride's side at the Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
