In Loving Memory of Joel Barton Stevens
Murrayville, Georgia
1956 – 2025

Joel Barton Stevens, age 69, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Murrayville, GA.

Joel battled the unfortunate side effects of substance use disorder; however, this struggle did not define him in his entirety. Raised in Murrayville, Joel was a member of Rock Hill Congregational Holiness Church on Price Road (now The Edge) and a proud graduate of North Hall High School, Class of '74. While at North Hall, he was a multi-sport athlete who excelled in football, ultimately serving as captain of the varsity team.

Joel's inherited eye for detail and perfectionist mindset served him well as a gifted machinist, working at TRW, Winsmith, and Stork Gamco. Later, he followed in his family's footsteps and became a finish carpenter, contributing to countless projects and job sites. With an engineering mindset, Joel often designed custom tools and processes to complete any task-always eager to share the logic behind his creative solutions.

He was a passionate fan of NASCAR, classic automobiles, and Southern rock music. Over the years Joel dabbled in Dirt track racing, Coaching Little Leagues, and even learned martial arts. Joel was always eager to help friends and family where and how he could.

Joel is survived by his sister, Teresa Cook (Michael); his children and grandchildren from his first marriage: daughter Adrienne West (Chuck), son Derrick Stevens, and grandchildren Shepard and Lillian West; and his children and grandchildren from his second marriage: daughter Holly Stevens Wainwright (Josh), son Luke Stevens, and grandchildren MaryAlice and Liam Wells.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. (Bud) Stevens and Olene Hulsey Stevens, and his brother Dewey Stevens.

The family will hold a private ceremony in his honor, but invites friends and loved ones to share a fond memory via the Tribute Wall on his Little & Davenport obituary.

To help others who may be facing similar battles, the family requests that donations be made to a local support group of your choice in memory of Joel Stevens-or consider the following organizations:

Joel we never connected back up but at least got to talk to you. I remember loading hay with you and your Dad. Thought a lot of you while we played football I never knew what left was but found out you were telling me that I was going to be left out. Kind like a bench warmer. We had lots of laughs and you will be missed.
