POLKTON - On Thursday, May 4, 2023, Mr. John Charles Allen, 80, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in the Burnsville Community in Polkton.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 12, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be private in the Columbarium at Anson Memorial Park.
The family is gathering at his home on Burnsville Church Road in Polkton.
Charles was born August 1, 1942, in Wilmington, NC, and was the only child of the late John Parker Allen and the late Rachel King Allen Thomas. He was a graduate of Polkton High School and was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following the war, he enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard. He retired from the National Guard with 24 years of service.
He owned and operated Polkton Welding and Fabricating, a welding and pipefitting business. Following retirement from both the military and his business, he worked for 10 years at Beachum and Lee Ford in Wadesboro and as a security officer with API.
Charles has also served on the Polkton Town Council.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Paige Allen Dyson (Michael) of Polkton and Ashlie Allen Jones (Chip Gay) of Keystone Heights, FL; his grandchildren, Gavin Jones of Polkton and Kennedy Jones of Darlington, SC; his great-grandson, Levi Jones of Darlington, SC; his aunt, Barbara Williamson of Morven and his sister-in-law, Jeanette Howell (Curtis) of Wadesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Williams Allen, and his step-father, Haywood Thomas.
Charles' family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Patricia Harrison, Jackie Huntley, Linda Pratt and Tasha Lucas for the excellent care they gave him. The family will remain forever grateful for their being a part of their lives and his.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Anson County Animal Shelter, c/o Turner and Tarlton, 111 E Wade St # B, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
