Dr. John Arthur "Art" Anderson, age 71, of Deerfield passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on February 19, 2022. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Jessie Lee, son, Eric Anderson, and daughter, Renee Anderson, when he passed.
Art was born on January 9, 1951, to Glen Marshall Conrad Anderson and Dorothy Alice Anderson, née Gibbs, in Galveston, TX and was raised in Brinkley, AR. After graduating from Brinkley High School in 1969, Art went to the University of Arkansas and received a BS in Chemistry. He then joined the Navy for six years where he attended Officer Candidate School, served on the USS Nimitz as a nuclear engineer, and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. In 1979, he attended the University of South Carolina for an advanced degree and received his Ph. D. in Inorganic Chemistry in 1984.
He began his first job as a Spectroscopist at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where he met the love of his life and wife, Dr. Jessie Y. Lee. They married in 1986, and had two children, Eric and Renee. He has devoted thirty-two years at UIC, during which he served as director of NMR, Mass Spectrometry, among others in the Research Resources Center. He retired from UIC in Jan 2016. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, woodworking, archery, gardening, and fishing.
In addition to his wife, children, and soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Stephanie Cascio, he is survived by his brother, Jerry (Ann) Anderson of New Jersey, sister, Lynn (Ricky) Rodriguez of Dallas, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, IL 60090 followed by a remembrance gathering at a location to be determined.
