John D. Ansinelli, age 82, of Herrin, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 2, 2024.
John was born in Herrin on June 14, 1942, the son of Joe and Lois (Hopper) Ansinelli. He married Janet Faye Lavender on June 15, 1960. She preceded him in death June 9, 2018.
Growing up in Herrin, John proudly remained faithful to his hometown. In his younger years, he began working for the Macri's at Red Top Liquor in 1964, which he later came to own with his brother- Rusty. His liquor store was more than a business, it was a gathering place where friendships were forged. John's kindness, generosity, and commitment to his customers will forever be remembered.
John proudly served as a Past President of the Fin and Feather Club in Freeman Spur. He shared his passion of hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending the day golfing or skeet shooting with his friends and family.
Survivors included three daughters- Debi (Tony) Patton, Kathy (Mark) Gibson, and Valarie (Joe) Fountain. John was blessed with eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother- Rusty (Carol) Ansinelli, sister- Nancy (Billy) Woodhouse, brother-in-law- Roy Lavender, brother-in-law- Jim (Dawn) Lavender; and sister-in-law- Vivian Ansinelli.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter- Toni Ladd, and brother- Joe Ansinelli.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin (located at 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL). A time of visitation will be held from 12:00pm-2:00pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Fin and Feather Club (102 Kennedy Street; Freeman Spur, IL 62841) or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will also be available and accepted at the funeral home.
