Sewell Eugene Tincher, Sr., age 91, of
Marion, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in Parkway Manor of Marion
He was born on December 5, 1933 at home in Breathitt County, Kentucky to James and Martha (Noble) Tincher.
As a child, Eugene's family moved from Eastern Kentucky to Western Kentucky.
He married Iola Mae VanHooser on October 4, 1952 in Princeton, Kentucky and together they shared over 71 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on June 16, 2024.
In 1964, they moved to
Marion, Illinois and for over thirty-five years, Eugene worked line clearance for the I.B.E.W. Local 702.
Eugene lived a life of faith and dedication to the Lord. He was a charter member of Messiah Christian Church of Marion where he served as a deacon for many years. Their love for others was evident in that Eugene and Iola were foster parents for over 50 kids throughout the years. In his younger years, Eugene enjoyed playing on the church softball team and was an avid fan of Kentucky Basketball. Next to the Lord, Eugene loved his family most of all, and especially looked forward to being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren creating wonderful memories.
He is survived by three sons, Gene Tincher and wife, Gloria, Ricky Tincher, and Ron Tincher and wife, Gretchen, all of Marion; daughter, Mylinda Gates and husband, Jeremy, of Marion; son-in-law, Jeff Chamness of Marion; eleven grandchildren, Jason Chamness and wife, Angela, of Silverdale, WA, Janel Chamness of Johnston City, IL, Chasity Mason and husband, Tadd, of Marion, Stephanie Nguyen and husband, Lee, of Marion, Corey Tincher and wife, Kirsten, of St. Louis, MO, Andriea Raines and husband, Myles, of Anna, IL, Carl Mullinax and wife, Melissa, of Springfield, IL, Brandon Sullins of Marion, Michael Sullins of Marion, Elizabeth Sullins of Marion and Blake Sullins of Marion; ten great-grandchildren, Faith Chamness, Marissa Jack, Hunter Chamness, Nevaeh Nguyen, Jaden Nguyen, Oliver Mullinax, Quentin Mullinax, Smith Nguyen, Sawyer Mason and Fern Sopher-Tincher; one great-great-granddaughter, Hadley Mae Vailes; and several other extended family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Jennifer Chamness; and nine siblings.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street,
Marion, IL.
The visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and will resume on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Following the visitation on Monday, the funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Glenn presiding.
Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital" or the "
