It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Auston, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left us on June 6, 2025, at the age of 82. John was born on February 9, 1943, in Chicago, IL.
A passionate Cubs fan, John dedicated countless hours to cheering on his beloved team, creating vivid memories that will forever be part of his family's narrative. He also found immense joy in building model trains, a hobby that allowed him to express his creativity and share moments of delight with those he loved.
John was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of the Lions Club, where he served as president for several terms, and was also a proud member of the American Legion Post #867. His service and leadership reflected his dedication to helping others and making a lasting impact on those around him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son, David (Emily) Auston; his brothers, Jim (Joanne) Auston and Bob Auston; and his sister, Ruth Roper. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and cherished by many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, his dear daughter Jennifer McMeel, and his sister Janet Groh.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Avon Centre Cemetery, 21300 W Shorewood Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030, with all who wish to pay their respects invited to attend. Following the service, guests are welcome to gather at noon at Café 31 North, 217 Front St Suite A, McHenry, IL 60050, for a time of fellowship and remembrance.
John, you will be sorely missed, but your spirit will always remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege and joy of knowing you. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of John, please visit our floral store.
