John Barfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Dec. 24, 2025.
John Edward Barfield Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones, in San Antonio, Texas.
John was born on September 12, 1951, in Cheneyville, Louisiana, to Dorothy Joubert and biological father John Edward Barfield Sr. He was raised by his devoted stepfather, Alfred Williams II, who played a meaningful role in his upbringing. Though born in Louisiana, John migrated to Houston, Texas where he spent his adolescence.
John proudly served 21 years in the United States Air Force, dedicating himself to his country with honor and integrity. He furthered his commitment to service through education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's degree in Psychology. John went on to serve the community as a Probation Officer in Felony and Misdemeanor Drug Court with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, from which he retired after a distinguished career.
John was a devoted husband to Francis (King) Barfield and a loving father to Gabriel Barfield and Crystal Barfield. He was a proud grandfather to Derrick Norton Jr., Isaiah, Lorenzo, Irisa, and Inez, and a cherished great-grandfather. He further leaves behind 7 siblings: Edra Oliver, Sadie Johnson, Gracie Marshall, Annette Coleman, Rev. Alfred Williams III, Donald Williams, Gloria Williams, and is lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
John found joy in shopping, traveling, working, spending time with family, and grilling/barbecuing. He valued being a provider, an educator, having a strong work ethic, and above all, the honor of the Barfield family name, which he carried with pride and passed on with intention. A devoted Baptist, his faith guided his life.
Visitation services will be held on January 12th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Castle Ridge. The funeral service will be January 13th at 9:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m., also at Castle Ridge. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston.
John's humor, love, and unwavering dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his descendants, who will continue to carry forward his name.
