John P. Bergmark

John P. Bergmark, 90, of Windward Lane, Bristol, died peacefully at his home on Oct. 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was husband to the late Marie (Brennan) Bergmark. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., a son of the late John C. and Lillian (Leggett) Bergmark, he lived in Barrington for 35 years before retiring to Bristol.

John worked as a sales representative for Mead Paper of Dayton, Ohio.

A student of theater, studying under the late Lucile Lortel, he had a lifelong involvement in community theater. He was the past president of the Barrington Players and a longtime member of the Barker Playhouse in Providence, where he performed in musicals and plays.

He was a former member of the Barrington Jaycees, volunteered at TAPIN of Barrington, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), advocating for children in the foster care system. He served in the Army stationed in South Korea and was a member of the Seventh Division Choir.

He enjoyed sailing and loved the town of Bristol. His family and friends cherish him. May his memory be a blessing.

He is survived by his sister, Janice (Bergmark) Gallagher of Glastonbury, Conn.; former wife, Joanne (Szukalla) Bergmark of Bristol; daughter, Jennifer Bergmark and her husband Edward Levy of Bristol; daughter, Jane Bergmark of Brattleboro, Vt.; grandchildren, Eva Davenport, Makeda Bergmark, Isaiah Bergmark, and Elijah Bergmark; and nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren, and extended family. He was the brother of the late Robert Bergmark and Gene Bergmark.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at 12 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington.
