John A. Bernardo, 57, of Florida Ave, Amsterdam New York, owner of J. Bernardo Contracting, passed away suddenly Friday November 26, 2021, from COVID related illness at St. Mary's Health Care Amsterdam New York. Born January 22, 1964, in Schenectady New York, he was the first son of Shirley (Buzzo) Bernardo and the late John S. Bernardo. John was the proud owner of J. Bernardo Contracting. He loved his family, camping, and fishing. John was well known by his sense of humor, scaring people, along with the love and respect he showed everyone. He married Karen Rutecki Bernardo on June 2, 1990. Survivors include his wife, Karen Bernardo; daughters: Angelina Bernardo (Mike Blake), Rachel Bernardo (Joshua Shimkus), and Sicily Bernardo (Tommy Hulett); 4 grandchildren: Jaida, Lina, Ana, and Kash who he loved dearly. Mother Shirley Bernardo; siblings: Mark Bernardo, Jeff Bernardo, Jamie Bernardo (Stefany), and Tina Bernardo (Raymond). Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and lifelong friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at De Stefano Funeral Home, Rt. 5-S, Amsterdam with the Rev. O. Robert Demartinis officiating. Calling hours will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
