John Joseph Bilyk

John Joseph Bilyk, 80, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2024. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1944 to the late Michael H. Bilyk, Sr. and Mary Solanina Bilyk. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Frederick.
A 1962 graduate of St. Basil Preparatory School in Stamford, Connecticut, John was an accomplished athlete known for track, basketball, and baseball. He received an associate degree from Point Park College in Pittsburgh before being drafted into the United States Army in 1965, where he faithfully served for 2 years.
John was married in 1967 to Barbara Elaine Lambert at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The newly married couple made Belle Center, Ohio their home where John was employed at Rockwell International. He completed his bachelor's degree in business from Findlay College in 1979. They were faithful members of Christian Fellowship Church in Bellefontaine and actively involved in the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. John proudly served as a volunteer fireman and EMT for 15 years in Belle Center.
In 1983, they relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia where John worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network for 34 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, woodworking, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Barbara Elaine Bilyk of Chesapeake, Virginia; children, Tonya (Mark) Capps of Chesapeake, Virginia, Douglas (Karine) Bilyk of New York, New York, and Catherine (Keith) Moran of Glen Allen, Virginia; grandchildren, Meghan (Alex) Capps of Yorktown, Virginia, Casey (Paul) Arcoria of Atlanta, Georgia, Lucas Bilyk of New York, New York, Michael Moran of Glen Allen, Virginia, Ethan Moran of Glen Allen, Virginia, Margaux Bilyk of New York, New York, and Elise Bilyk of New York, New York; great-grandchild, Cassidy Arcoria of Atlanta, Georgia.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 12 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, Virginia followed by a time of reception and fellowship. He was privately laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center, Ohio.
