John R. Bowen, age 78, was born on October 10, 1947, and passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. A golden heart stopped beating, and hardworking hands are now at rest.
John was born in Lansing, Michigan, to Roy Wesley and Lillie (Fisher) Bowen and graduated from Everett High School in 1965. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 238 in Holt.
After returning home, John resumed work at Perfection (Schafer) Bakery, where he was employed from 1963 to 1997. In 1998, he began working at Quality Dairy Company as a manager at the Waverly–St. Joseph store (#10), where he remained until his retirement in August 2024. John's favorite place was at Middle Lake in Hastings, Michigan, where he spent cherished time with his wife, Althea.
He is survived by his wife, Althea (Shaw) Bowen; daughter, Shawn (Dennis) Sorrow; grandson, Dylan; granddaughter, Annalise; sister, Marilyn Sue and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Chad Michael and sisters, Carolynne Marie Buckner and Jacqueline Kay Causie.
Services were held privately. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
