Jack Ronald Shippey, a longtime resident of
St. Johns, Michigan, died at home in the care of his family on October 4, 2025, after having been recently diagnosed with cancer. He was 75 years old.
Born on May 27, 1950, in Lansing, Jack was the son of Jack Dee Shippey and Audrey Lee (Williams) Shippey. He grew up in Lansing and was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. He continued his education at Lansing Community College and Michigan State University.
Jack proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, spending two years stationed in Vietnam. He was a member of the St. Johns VFW Post #4113 and American Legion Post #153.
His working years included time with Michigan Beef, Oldsmobile, and later General Motors in Lansing. He especially enjoyed working for many years as a test driver at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford.
It was at Michigan Beef that Jack met Maria Kerby. The two married on March 20, 1976, and shared more than forty-nine years together. In retirement, Jack fulfilled a longtime dream of owning a pontoon boat and property on Rainbow Lake, where he loved spending time with family, who affectionately called him "Captain Jack." He enjoyed fishing, hunting, grilling, and was known for his meticulous care of his lawn. Jack genuinely loved mowing and snow-blowing and often took care of his neighbors' driveways, always on the go.
A devoted sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the Detroit Lions and MSU basketball and football. He was a good grandpa and great-grandpa, and a true history buff who enjoyed the History Channel and studying the past.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Maria; his children, Greg (Sandra) McClintic, Kevin McClintic, Jason Shippey, and Jennifer (Scott) Fell; grandchildren, Krista (Luke) Meyer, Brenda (Adam) Eichorn, Kara McClintic, Julian Sanchez, Sergio (Morgan) Wagner, Joshua (Brooke) Trotter, Lauren Wagner, Cory (Estrella) McClintic, Preston McClintic, Mykala Konecny, and Aundrea (Cameron) Newkirk; his sixteen great-grandchildren; and his granddogs, Mya and Macy. He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne (Gilbert) DeVlieger, Debbie Shippey, and Jody (the late Brian) Smith; as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Shippey.
