John H. Brettschneider, age 91, of Gladwin, formerly of Lincoln Park, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born on October 7, 1933, the son of Johann and Anna (Rottenbach) Brettschneider, in Yugoslavia. John was employed as a Property Manager in Construction for many years until his retirement. On June 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Valentina Olofinska. Together they shared many years filled with love and cherished memories.
John had a deep love for the outdoors. He was a hardworker, always keeping busy with his hands. John and Valentina were snowbirds for over 20 years and enjoyed the winter months spent down in Florida. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Valentina; daughters: Sue (Michael) Harvey and Eva (Jeffrey) Taliaferro; grandchildren: Dustin (Arlene) Yoder, Courtney (Nick) Failer, and Leanna (Scott) Rendell; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ellis, Beckett, Colton, and Tyler; nephew: John (Janis) Brettschneider; and great-nephew: Steven (Colleen) Brettschneider.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Maria Brettschneider.
A private burial will be held and a celebration of life is being planned for a later date. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, MI. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
