John Edward Brookins Obituary
John Edward Brookins 3/26/65 – 2/26/24 John Edward Brookins, son of Edward and Jeannette Brookins, was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 26, 1965. He was taught about Jesus at an early age, and within a few years, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a good student and ran track at Pottsgrove Middle School and came in first place every time.
After graduating Pottsgrove High School in 1984, John started working. His Dad worked construction with Allen Myers Construction Co. and was able to get John hired. Having worked there a few years, John sought employment that was not as physically demanding. John liked working with kids, that was one of his gifts, and he was considering furthering his education, so his next line of work was in the school system. He held Teaching Assistant positions with the Pottstown School District for several years. Around 1998, he went to work for the Pathway School in Jeffersonville, PA and worked with students who had autism, ADHD, and other educational challenges. One such student really liked and respected John, seeing him as a big brother. They stayed in contact throughout the student's adult years, even to the time he became a parent.
John dedicated much of his life to working with youth. His work with kids was more than just a job with pay, it was his ministry, I believe, from the Lord. And, besides his work with school kids, he also had nephews and nieces that he spent time with. John was good at making friends. Some of those friendships date back to his school years, others came about in later years. He had a heart for people and would share what he had to help someone else.
He enjoyed spending personal time with God in the Word and prayer, and he became a stronger Christian as a result. He faced a lot of serious health and financial challenges in the last few years yet kept his faith in God.
The last time that I spoke with my nephew, he shared with me the obstacles he was facing, all coming one after another, in addition to not feeling well. The one thing I clearly remember him saying to me was, "Don't worry, I know that God will make a way." He texted me the next day to let me know what GOD had done for him. Even though the bigger issues remained, he was thankful for what GOD had done and he kept his faith in GOD for his health and other needs all the way-- to the very end.
On Monday, February 26, 2024, at 5:26 PM, John Edward Brookins left his physical body and was ushered immediately by the angels of GOD into the presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was predeceased by his mother, Jeannette (Scott) Brookins in 1998, his father, Edward Anthony Brookins in 2022, and his sister, Tina Brookins in 1962.
He is survived by his sisters, Charmaine Brookins, and Angela (Brookins) Heard, his aunt, Janice Smith, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
In closing, this gathering is a celebration of the life of our brother. We did not "lose" a loved one; we know where he is, in Heaven, in a glorified body rejoicing in the presence of the LORD, and we will see him again. -Janice Smith

Was a friend of his from like 5th grade thru high school years .Played basketball with him and others up at West Pottsgrove Elementary school many weekdays and weekends all year long . He played the game just like he lived. He liked getting everyone the ball and allowing them to take part in the games . He was easy going and a wonderful person and know he knew Jesus . Met him again later in life when saw he was attending my Church ( Coventry Church of Brethren ) but we missed each other because he attended the early service and I was attending the later service .
