John Melvin Brooks ("JB" or "Paw Paw")
1954 - 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Melvin Brooks, affectionately known as "JB" or "Paw Paw," on November 29, 2024, at the age of 70 in Cartersville, Georgia. Born in 1954 in Atlanta, Georgia, John was the beloved son of the late Annie Lee Brooks Hallman and Melvin Brooks. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Murphy and Wanda McGuirt.
As a child, John moved to Acworth, Georgia, where he forged lifelong friendships. He attended North Cobb High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army at Fort Sill Army Base beginning in 1975. After his honorable service, John pursued a successful career as a painter, ultimately founding his own company, AGAC ("Ain't Got a Clue"), which specialized in painting commercial buildings throughout the southeastern United States.
John was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures, including hosting friends for horseshoe games after work and cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. His life was filled with love for his family, and his generosity touched all who knew him.
John is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Brooks Irizarry, and her husband, Ezi Irizarry, as well as his stepdaughter, Julie Jones. He was a devoted grandfather to Rachael and Brianna Irizarry, and Jayden and Jurnee Prince. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Brooks, and his "almost sister," Dee Neal. His nephews Bobby Davis, James Bailey, and Marshall Bailey also mourn his loss.
In retirement, John found immense joy in being "Manny" to his granddaughters, who were the light of his life. He was a loving and giving man, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services are being provided by Georgia Funeral Care in Acworth, Georgia. A service to honor John's life will be held at the VA Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, at a later date.
John Melvin Brooks may have departed this earth, but his spirit and the cherished memories he created will live on forever. He will be deeply missed.
