John Alfred Bullen

Graveside services for John A. Bullen, M.D., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021, in the El Reno Cemetery. Allen Carson of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
Dr. Bullen died July 25 at his home in Oklahoma City. John was born June 12, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. He lived in Geary before moving to El Reno in 1958.
As a child he raised and showed sheep, and loved playing sports, including basketball, football, baseball, softball, and track.
John graduated from El Reno High School. He attended Southwestern State and earned a physiology degree from Oklahoma State University. He graduated from the OU Health Sciences Center College of Medicine with a Medical Degree and a subsequent residency in Psychiatry.
John practiced psychiatry in Oklahoma and Louisiana, in both clinical and teaching positions at various hospitals and insititutions. He conducted research in mental health and published numerous papers. His last position was at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana before retiring in 1995.
He returned to Oklahoma, living in El Reno and Oklahoma City during his retirement years. He especially enjoyed watching sports, including Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. John also enjoyed classic movies, especially westerns.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Elza and Elva Bullen, grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his brothers, Michael Bullen, M.D., and wife Cheryl of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jim Bullen, M.D., and wife Jude Tolar of Stillwater, Oklahoma; nephew Eric Bullen and niece Leigh Bullen, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and nephew Alex Bullen and wife Alexis and grand-niece Evelyn of Lafayette, Colorado.
