John C. Callender

John Callender Obituary

John C. Callender, currently of Port Huron, MI, passed away on February 17,

2026. He was born in Indianapolis, IN into a music loving family on August 17,

1946. This was a love he embraced during his lifetime. He was the son of his

beloved parents, Maurice and Mary Callender.

He married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Sciscoe, in June of l968. They

have two daughters, Sheri (Ryan) Ponack and Laura (Chris) Nurnberg. John

was a devoted father, always being there for his daughters. They have three

grandsons of which he is most proud; Jonathan Nurnberg, Benjamin Nurnberg

and Liam Ponack. He has enjoyed watching them grow into young adults, and

their participation in various sports and other activities was a great joy for him.

In 1968 John enlisted in the US Navy and was selected for Officers Candidate

School. He reached the rank of Lieutenant before resigning to continue his

education.

He received his undergraduate degree from his beloved Butler University, and

graduated from the University of Houston in 1978 with a PhD in Psychology.

He had a long career with Procter and Gamble working as an Industrial

Psychologist.

John leaves behind 3 loving sisters, Cynthia Rider (Ed Sebring), Lorraine

Getty (Harvey Mack) and Carol (Mike) Dixon and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory can

be made to the American Cancer Society.
