Dr. John F. "Jack" Calvert

Dr. John F. "Jack" Calvert passed away on September 24, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Jack was 76 years old. He was born in Peckville, PA. to Carl and Alice (Welch) Calvert and is survived by Lynne, his wife of 53 years, a sister, Jill Kandel-Smith of Columbus Ohio, a nephew, Stephen Kandel and wife Mallarie and great niece Emmalynn of Plano, Texas.
Jack graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy with a BSc. in 1972 and one of the earliest Doctor of Pharmacy degrees in the country in 1973. His career was dedicated to teaching and mentoring students at Union University's Albany College of Pharmacy and Albany Medical College from which he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1999.
Jack combined his love of teaching and of clinical pharmacy with his love of travel and, through the years was visiting professor at the University of Ankara in Ankara, Turkey; St. George's Medical School in the West Indies; the University of Singapore and was a Fulbright Professor at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare, Zimbabwe where he also served as that country's only poison information resource.
Coming to the Shore was difficult for Jack as he was a mountain boy and sorely missed elevation, snow and rocks but he moved for Lynne who grew up at sea level with sand and no snow. He came to love his new home. Jack treasured books, was a movie buff, collected Native American and Inuit art and was a fantastic cook. He loved his family, his students and his animals and will be missed by them all.
