John Campbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitt Funeral Home & Oakcrest Cremation Center on Mar. 15, 2026.
John Edward Campbell Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 12, 2026, in his hometown of Duncan, Oklahoma. He was 65 years old.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Whitt Funeral Home. A private service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with Christian Murillo and Skyler Rodriguez officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Stevenson, Jim Yates, Tim Johnson, Scott Smith, and Jeff Gregston.
John, better known as "Jed" to family and friends, "Dad" to his children, and "Pop" to his granddaughter, was born to John "Buddy" and Virginia Campbell on October 20, 1960, and raised in Duncan, Oklahoma. Upon graduating from Duncan High School, Jed attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and Oklahoma City University College of Law. Jed married Carolyn Bonney in 1986. Together, they had two children: Claire Bonney Campbell and John Edward Campbell III, who were also raised in Duncan, Oklahoma. Jed practiced law in Duncan for more than 35 years. He was an avid OU sports fan, attending football and basketball games as a season-ticket holder for over 40 years. Jed's most cherished memories were with his family, including annual family trips to both Palm Springs, CA and Hilton Head, SC. He loved to play golf with his son, John, and would still discuss memories of Father-Daughter events when his daughter, Claire, was a student at OU.
Jed never missed an important moment in his children's lives. For Claire, he was in attendance for every single dance recital, show choir performance, school award assembly, OU pom performance, and OU Dad's Weekend. Most importantly, Jed was able to walk Claire down the aisle and dance with her at her wedding in 2025. For John, Jed not only attended every soccer and basketball game, show choir performance, school award assembly, and OU Dad's Weekend, he also coached John's baseball team for several years. He is still referred to as "Coach" by John's teammates and friends to this day. But most importantly for John, Jed served as best man in his wedding and was present for the birth of John's daughter, Hilton Blair Campbell. Jed was and will forever be remembered as the most supportive and loving husband, father, and grandfather anyone could wish for.
Jed is survived by his wife, Carolyn Campbell; daughter, Claire Taylor and husband, Russell; son, John Campbell and wife, Alexis; granddaughter, Hilton; brother, Bob Campbell and wife, Nancy; sisters, Page Gray and husband Steve, and Shelley Beall and husband, Robert; sister-in-law, Laura Lewis and husband, James; brother-in-law, Clifton Bonney and wife, Stacy; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Buddy Campbell, and mother, Virginia Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Jed Campbell to the Stephens County Humane Society, the Taylor Le Norman / McCasland Cancer Center, or the OU Foundation.
