Obituary published on Legacy.com by John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. - East York on Feb. 3, 2026.
John Placido Capresecco, 80, passed from this life on January 23, 2026.

John was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1945, to parents Emerico and Anna Capresecco. He attended St. Benedict elementary school and Bishop McDevitt High School, Philadelphia, PA.

In 1962 he enlisted in the military. He served in the United State Air Force, Strategic Air Command at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. John was a patriot and loved his country. He was a member of the American Legion, supporting many veteran causes.

Upon returning to civilian life, John attended the Police Academy in Montgomery County, PA. He accomplished a great deal during the 30 years he served in law enforcement, receiving multiple Distinguished Service awards and commendations. He moved from patrolman to sergeant while serving as the Firearms Instructor, field training officer, and teaching street survival, while overseeing evidence retention and investigations. He began his department's Tactical and Crisis Response Unit, serving as Tactical Commander for several years. He was an honorary Texas Ranger and U.S. Marshal, having collaborated and assisted these agencies when they were active in his jurisdiction.

John played semi-pro football for the Allentown Yellow Jackets, the feeder team for the Philadelphia Eagles, in 1978 and 1979. He played tight end and running back positions, having to leave when his police duties conflicted with training and games schedules. He was an avid fan of the original Oakland Raiders. He was a competitive weight lifter within the Police Athletic league, and enjoyed mentoring younger athletes.

John married the love of his life, his wife Cynthia in 1990. He enjoyed sharing his passion for cars, especially classic cars, with his son, John Paul. John always enjoyed the talent and music of Dean Martin. John was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed cooking, often using his Italian grandmother's recipes. John and his family attended St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. John was one of the original members of the Good Shepherd Perpetual Adoration chapel. He continued to actively participate until his health significantly declined. John's faith remained an integral part of his life.

John is survived by his wife, Cynthia, son, John Paul, and daughter, Michelle. He will be sorrowfully missed by them, as well as his sisters, Mary Ellen Francke and Anna Marie Klinedinst, his cousin, Bill, and other extended family members.

John is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Richard, and sisters Margaret and Eleanor.

John's services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Good Shepherd Perpetual Adoration Chapel, c/o St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 231 S. Beaver Street, York, PA 17401, can be made in John's name.
