John J. Cavanagh

John J. Cavanagh, 84, was born in the Bronx, New York, and passed away on December 19, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion; his daughter, Mary Ellen; his former son-in-law, Matthew Smith; and his grandchildren, Shane Cavanagh and McKenna Smith.
John began his career at Con Edison at the age of 17. Three years later, he met his future wife, Marion, at a company dance, where, according to her, he was a terrific dancer. He remained with Con Edison for 38 years, retiring at the age of 55 and enjoying nearly three decades of retirement.
John enjoyed golf and bowling, watching all sports, and rooting for the home teams. He also loved good food, playing cards with friends, and trips to the casino, finding enjoyment in familiar pastimes and time spent with others.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. MST at St. Steven’s Roman Catholic Church, 24827 S. Dobson Rd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. Streaming services will be announced.
